About the knitted bouquet

My name is Nicola Stanton and I started The Knitted Bouquet in 2008. It came about after I fell in love with knitting in 2007 after the birth of my second child. I have always loved textile crafts, and patchwork and quilting was my first obsession.

This was abandoned to the loft (to be resumed at a later date!!) after my second child took up the spare room – my hobby room – and we just didn’t have the space anymore. I saw a lady on TV being interviewed about her many knitted items including cakes and food and I thought it looked like fun (as well as a lot more portable!) so I decided to give it a go! After knitting lots of toys I turned my attention to flowers. I wanted to make a vase full of knitted flowers and couldn’t believe how difficult it was to find anything remotely suitable so decided to design my own. I wanted something realistic but fun, modern and fresh looking so The Knitted Bouquet gradually came about.

I now absolutely love designing flowers. Picking one that catches my eye in a book and then figuring out how to turn it in to a knitted creation that not only looks great but is simple for everyone to give it a go is so exciting. The beauty of flowers is also that there are so many it is possible to just keep on going and I can’t seem to stop now I have started! I also love felting and seeing the change in the fibres and the differing result it gives to the finished item is wonderful. I am very aware that not everyone likes felting so have been careful to make sure my designs cater for both knitting and felting enthusiasts.

I design and create all the patterns myself whilst being a full time mum to my 2 boys. The printing and web side of things is dealt with by my husband and I have managed to coax my mum in to helping out at the knitting shows I have attended so all in all this is a real family affair!
